Kim Kobialko is a mixed media artist from Te Horo. She has over 20 years' experience as a professional photographer, including spending 10 years travelling the world photographing unique places and running art auctions by the sea.

For this series of artworks Kim has combined photography with an ancient art of Encaustic painting. Dating back to 100-300AD this technique was notably used in the Fayum mummy portraits in Egypt. Kim's method involves heating beeswax and mixing this with a tree resin. She then adds coloured pigments, and applies this liquid paste to her surfaces.

Kim prefers to keep her imagery simple and timeless, trees and birds are common subjects, which she combines with upcycled objects such as wooden platters and trays. Creating artworks that have a vintage quality, while are still contemporary and unique.
