Gospel According to the Blues is a one-off concert at Expressions. The Gospel Project presents a contemporary review of classic Gospel Blues with a full 10 piece band including 'The Tempests' vocal duo and vocalists Jade Eru and Pip Payne.

Gospel music originated in America when black slaves took the chords of Christian songs and wove a rich tapestry of African chant mixed with fiery sermon. Gospel music influenced blues, soul, rhythm and blues, jazz, swing and gospel continues to be a very strong and vibrant branch of the music tree. At this concert the musicians and vocalists are drawn from the best the genre has to offer with songs covering the rhythms from the Deep South, and tunes drawn from a wide range of artists including Aarron Neville, Mavis Staples, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley.
