Expressions Arts & Entertainment Centre in in conjunction with the Wellington Jazz Club and the New Zealand Jazz Foundation proudly presents

Following an absence of two years the New Zealand Youth Jazz Orchestra returns to the newly named Gillies Group Theatre at Expressions Arts & Entertainment Centre in Upper Hutt and will perform in concert on Sunday 17 August 2014. The concert is being jointly staged by Wellington Jazz Club and the New Zealand Jazz Foundation. The concert will be the first in a short New Zealand tour undertaken by the orchestra.

The 2014 Orchestra will tour with renowned New York City Trombonist and Educationalist Luis Bonilla and will be jointly directed by New Zealand School of Music faculty members, Rodger Fox and Dave Lisik.

Selected by audition New Zealand wide, this exceptionally talented group of musicians including vocalists represents the best of New Zealand's jazz musicians up to 19 years of age.

The orchestra's programme will feature a wide selection of big band jazz material in traditional and contemporary styles. As demonstrated in past years, the concert promises to be a great evening's entertainment for the whole family.'

Featured soloist, Luis Bonilla's illustrious career in jazz has spanned nearly three decades as a major trombone artist. Luis is one of New York's premiere jazz artists. He is a member of the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, the Mingus Big Band and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra. He has performed with jazz artists such as McCoy Tyner, Dizzy Gillespie, Lester Bowie, Freddie Hubbard and Astrud Gilberto, Tony Bennett and Diana Ross. Luis is currently a Professor of Music at the Manhatten School of Music.
