TURNOVSKY JUBILEE ENSEMBLE

Monday 15 June | 7.30pm

Led by charismatic violinist Wilma Smith, this stellar string ensemble of Chamber Music New Zealand Contest Alumni performs at Expressions.

Celebrating the 50th Jubilee of the New Zealand Chamber Music Contest this fabulous alumni group is made up of contest winners spanning 25 years.

The programme reflects a youthful focus, with Mendelssohn's exuberant Octet, written when he was only 16, and the colourful Simple Symphony by Britten, based on his own piano tunes and composed when he was aged between nine and twelve. Add in some well-loved Bach and you have a recipe guaranteed to delight.

Included in the line-up are Justine Cormack and Ashley Brown (NZ Trio), Gillian Ansell (NZ String Quartet), Victoria Simonsen (Philharmonia) and Vicki Jones (former NZSO).

Bach: Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G major, BWV 1048
Britten: Simple Symphony, for string orchestra, Op. 4
Lilburn: Allegro for Strings
Mendelssohn: Octet for stings in Eb, Op. 20

This concert is presented in association with Chamber Music New Zealand.
