King of the Blues Coming to Upper Hutt

The artist described by the San Jose Mercury News as “the future of the Blues” is giving one concert only in Upper Hutt.

Blues guitarist and vocalist, Chris Cain, is performing at The Expressions Arts Centre, Upper Hutt, on October 8 at 8pm as part of a three venue gig and recording session. In his brief New Zealand tour, Chris will be in concert with the Rodger Fox Big Band and jazz legend Erna Ferry.

American, Chris Cain, has won four W.C. Handy awards which, in the blues world, are the equivalent of receiving a Grammy nomination. Rodger describes him as the “King Of the Blues” while the Washington Post declared he’s a “hot-shot guitarist and singer with a relaxed style and mature expression of the old masters like Bobby Bland and B. B. King.”

The Wellington based, Rodger Fox Big Band, needs no introduction as being New Zealand’s foremost big band which has performed with legendary artists such as Charlie Musselwhite, Robben Ford, Midge Marsden, Mike Stern, Joey De Francesco, Patti Austin, Bob Sheppard and Chris Cain himself.

Erna Ferry, vocalist and blues harp player, has toured with the World Blues Revue, performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival and is known throughout New Zealand as a consummate jazz artist.

Chris will perform original and contemporary blues standards and Erna will duet with him on harmonica in some breathtaking numbers. Rodger comments that in every concert the audience is blown away by “his fantastic personality.”

Chris Cain’s concert dates in New Zealand act as a release tour of the Chris Cain/Rodger Fox Big Band “King Of the Blues” CD which will be available for sale at The Expressions Arts Centre.
