COMMON THREAD

1 March -13 May 2012 | Mount Marua Gallery

Woollen blankets have been a part of our history since their early arrival in the 1800’s, to the production in mills around the country during the industrialisation of New Zealand. Woollen blankets are common place objects that were and still are a part of every home. This exhibition looks at the original context of the blanket and then turns the focus to the expansion of its use as a material used in contemporary art practice.

FREE Floor Talk 2pm Sunday 29 April discussing the contemporary work by Common Thread artists and exhibition curator Natalie Friend.
