PUMPKIN COTTAGE: Preserving Our Artistic Heritage

19 January - 17 March 2013 | Mount Marua Gallery

This exhibition from the Pumpkin Cottage Paintings Collection gifted by Ernest and Shirley Cosgrove, will tell the stories of local art champions, including Ernest Cosgrove and Olive Castle, who sought to preserve Pumpkin Cottage’s significance to Upper Hutt’s artistic heritage. The exhibition features artists such as Fred Sedgwick, Nugent Welch, D.K. Richmond and Carl Laugesen, who continued to use Pumpkin Cottage as an artists’ retreat after James Nairn’s death in 1904 and until its demolition in 1980.

Curated by Jane Vial, this exhibition follows on from the award-winning Bohemians of the Brush; Pumpkin Cottage Impressionists.

Lecture by Guest Curator Jane Vial will be held on Sunday 17 March at 1pm. FREE ENTRY
