CORRUGATIONS: THE ART OF JEFF THOMSON

Corrugations is a significant exhibition hailing three decades of work by Kiwi sculptor Jeff Thomson, known as 'the iron man of Australasia'. Thomson is best known for his work with corrugated iron especially the iconic New Zealand sculptures such as the Gumboot in Taihape and the HQ Holden now in the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa's collection.

This exhibition, which is toured by Tauranga Art Gallery and won the best exhibition in the 2014 Museums Aotearoa Awards this year, examines three decades of work by Thomson. The exhibition is curated around the processes Thomson uses to make sculptures, eg. moulding, shaping, cutting and printing. A corrugated iron-clad Morris Minor, chooks, 3 metre high French knitting and corrugated bouquets of flowers are all part of the exhibition.
