Late Nite Fridays 2022 presents

Snakebone

Friday 13 May | 5pm - 8pm

Formed in the depths of a pandemic lockdown, Snakebone is the artistic brainchild of three of Wellington's most in demand sidemen. Tired from the din of thrown together, improvised gigs, this project was formed in opposition to that very approach. Snakebone is a fusion of far-flung vibrations accumulated by the three high priests of the bone.

With a sharp focus on songs and the aim of creating a distinctive, recognisable vibe, the trio incorporate bargain bin funk and soul, nefarious hip-hop beats, and psychedelic world music inflections to weave ear-worm melodies inside hypnotic grooves to create a narcotic effect.

The trio emerged from lockdown with a batch of 11 new songs. The process of refining that material is currently occurring through the natural process of gigging and rehearsing, always remaining open to new ideas and influences. The band are recording and mixing this material with a DIY approach and a strong sonic vision, choosing to rely on the talents and gear within the band to actualise the sound rather than hiring studio time or producers. Snakebone aim to sprinkle these songs out across 2022 and 2023 as singles.

Comprised of organ, guitar, drums & percussion, Snakebone are influenced by artists like The Wu-Tang Clan, James Brown, J Dilla, Curtis Mayfield, The Meters & Khruangbin.
