The Upper Hutt Piano Trust presents

Mark Lockett Quartet in Concert

Saturday 9 July | 7.00pm

Upper Hutt Piano Trust are pleased to present the Mark Lockett Jazz Quartet in concert for the first time in Upper Hutt. He is a Wellington-based drummer/composer and bandleader. He will be joined by Jake Baxendale on saxophone, Aryton Foot on piano and Seth Boy on double bass. Lockett is very active in the Wellington Jazz Cooperative. The music promises to be both joyful and allows musicians freedom to improvise not bound by complex harmonies.

Originally from Wellington, Lockett has studied with some of the most influential drummers on the scene today including Ari Hoeing, Joe Morello, Jim Black and John Riley, to name a few. He has released six albums under his own name and been a mainstay on the jazz scene both locally and internationally.

Lockett flys to New York the week after this concert to record a new album there.

Vince Cabrera, a soloist acoustic bass guitarist will open the concert.
