New Zealand Male Choir

In concert with the Hutt Valley Singers

Saturday 10 September | 7.00pm

Experience the magic of male voices, the joy of mixed choirs

The New Zealand Male Choir is performing with the Hutt Valley Singers in the Gilles Group Theatre, Whirinaki Whare Taonga, Upper Hutt on Saturday 10 th September 2022 at 7.00pm. The joy of singing in a choral setting is what brings the New Zealand Male Choir and the Hutt Valley Singers together for an evening of music.

The two choirs will perform separately and together so you get to hear the widest variety of sound. They will present music from modern shows to opera, from African American spirituals to Rodgers & Hammerstein, from Billy Joel to Verdi. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear mixed choral singing at its best.

The New Zealand Male Choir is an auditioned choir with over 50 members from Southland to North Auckland. Conducted by Hawkes Bay’s Joe Christensen, the Choir sing a range of music including classical, folk, waiata, gospel, operatic, popular, jazz, and contemporary. The Choir has entertained audiences both nationally and internationally for the past 22 years including a number of tours throughout Europe, Australia, and Canada. The Choir practises with North Island and South Island groups meeting monthly and collectively meet for tours or concerts three or four times a year. This will be the third concert in an eighteen-day concert tour around the central and lower South Island.

Men interested in joining the choir can make contact via the website: www.nzmalechoir.co.nz or speak to any of its members at the concert.

The Hutt Valley Singers are an un-auditioned community choir based in Upper Hutt with members from around the Hutt Valley Region. The choir has existed for more than 80 years during which time it has had several changes in name and style. It became the Hutt Valley Singers in 2004. Musical Director since 2010 has been Joanne Roelofs. When pandemics are not getting in the way, Hutt Valley Singers try to organise 2-3 concerts a year. Where possible or required they team up with other choirs, musicians, and top soloists. Their repertoire covers a wide variety of music ranging from classical, opera, musical theatre to recent pop songs and more! Each year is a mixture with various levels of difficulty, challenges, and lots of fun! The two choirs are looking forward to entertaining the Hutt Valley and give the promise of an enjoyable and memorable evening of music and song.
