Yakishime - Earth Metamorphosis

Saturday 23 November - Sunday 19 January 2025

Yakishime, firing unglazed wares at high temperatures, is the oldest ceramic technique of firing unglazed wares at high temperature in Japan. This exhibition focuses on Yakishime wares, as part of Japan’s traditional culture, and presents their history from the earliest examples to the present through Yakishime tea vessels, food vessels, and works that are transformations of Yakishime into non-utilitarian objects of art.

Curated by Iwai Mieko, from Panasonic Shiodome Museum and presented by The Japanese Embassy and The Japan Foundation.
