"I am my ancestor and my ancestor is me."

Land of My Ancestors is a deeply personal retrospective that honours Darcy Nicholas’s whakapapa, life journey, and enduring contribution to Māori art. Bringing together a curated selection of drawings, paintings, jewellery, and carvings spanning six decades of practice, the exhibition reflects the ancestors, landscapes, and stories that have shaped his world.

Grounded in whakapapa and cultural memory, the works explore identity, storytelling, and connection to whenua, carrying both personal and collective histories across generations.

The exhibition offers a rare opportunity to experience the breadth of Nicholas’s practice and the lasting impact of his work on Māori contemporary art in Aotearoa New Zealand.
